Columbia Giving Day Challenges
On Columbia Giving Day on Tuesday, October 1, members of our community secured more than $200,000 in additional funds for their Columbia schools, programs, and causes during two dozen hourly and daylong Giving Day Challenges!
Hourly Challenges
Hourly challenge funds are awarded to encourage giving momentum throughout the day. All times noted are EDT.
Daylong Challenges
The following challenges will run throughout Giving Day and be awarded at the end of the day, once the criteria have been met, or a few days post-Giving Day, once results are finalized.
Unlock Challenge
Come together with fellow Columbians—classmates, colleagues, family, and friends—to make a collective impact through Columbia Giving Day. For every 100 gifts a school, program, or cause receives, an additional $500 of challenge funds will be “unlocked” (e.g. After 100 gifts are made to GSAS, an additional $500 will be distributed to the GSAS Annual Fund; 200 gifts made will result in an additional $1,000 for the GSAS Annual Fund).
Encourage friends to join and help unlock even more challenge funds for your favorite school, program, or cause. No matter the size, every 100 gifts to a unit will unlock additional funds and directly transform the lives of members of our Columbia community.
New Donor Challenge
To ensure Columbia’s students, faculty, and researchers can continue changing the world, increased participation each Giving Day is essential.
Every gift* from a new donor will be matched and go to the school, program, or cause they support, encouraging new participation across units.
*Only gifts up to $1,000 are eligible.
Student Support Challenge: $15,000
Columbia has a strong commitment to student support. Our core mission is to provide a well-rounded education to the brightest future leaders of our day, no matter their financial circumstances. Gifts made to areas that directly support student success, including scholarships, financial aid, and other needs, will be eligible toward this challenge. Each unit that is part of the below groups will compete against its peers to win a share of funds. Funds will be allocated based on the percentage of dollars raised by each school/program within its group.
