Open Doors for GSAS Students to Make an Impact in the World

One of the oldest and most distinguished graduate schools in the United States, the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences (GSAS) administers the education of master's and doctoral students in the humanities, natural sciences, and social sciences at Columbia University. A graduate education at Columbia opens doors to rewarding careers and sets GSAS students on the pathway to make an impact in the world. Your gift provides immediate support for GSAS students and helps the school achieve its goal of ensuring that every student feels supported from the first day on campus through Commencement.

Make an Impact on Students Who Make an Impact in the World

Support Dean Alonso's Priorities

Carlos J. Alonso became dean of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences in July 2011. During his time as dean, he has revolutionized graduate education in the Arts and Sciences at Columbia, establishing an Office of Student Affairs, an Office of Academic Diversity and Inclusion, the GSAS Writing Studio, and Compass Career Development. Your gift provides funds for Dean Alonso to address new priorities as they arise.

The MA—a Springboard to the Future

The 46 master's programs at GSAS comprise about half of all GSAS students and attract a diverse group of scholars who work hard to prepare for doctoral education, careers in global industry, and a lifetime of leadership. Many MA students struggle to afford tuition and living expenses. A gift to support GSAS Master's Fellowships enables MA programs and GSAS to cultivate future leaders from across the economic spectrum and remain competitive with peer universities in attracting top applicants.

A Truly Global Student Body

GSAS has a long history of attracting a diverse, international student body, with over half of our current students coming from outside the United States—from Europe, Africa, Asia, as well as the Americas. And GSAS alumni are making an impact in 157 countries. Our international students and alumni help create a very rich scholarly environment with a variety of perspectives and experiences. Celebrate international students with a gift of support.
