Columbia University's 13 humanities departments are among the pillars upholding the stellar reputation of both the College and the University:
Art History and Archaeology
East Asian Languages and Cultures
English and Comparative Literature
French and Romance Philology
Latin American and Iberian Cultures
Middle Eastern, South Asian, and African Studies
Your gift to any department, center, or institute within the Humanities will support a nucleus of vibrant, innovative, and important scholarship and teaching.
A stellar example of the work that only the Humanities can make possible is the Music Performance Program (MPP). The MPP allows a new generation of future artists, politicians, scientists, and entrepreneurs to cultivate their talent and love of music through learning from world-class musicians. While thriving academically, our students keep an important place for music in their lives, and continue to make music relevant in the world around them. Student-musicians participate in a variety of activities, such as chamber music, jazz, world music, and orchestra, chorus, and individual instrumental instruction. New York City is their stage—the performances have taken our students beyond the Columbia campus, to such venues as Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall, and Symphony Space.
